The 7/8 Boys walked away with 1st place at the Ward competition last week and are heading off to Districts this weekend following some close matches.

Congratulations to our Sr Boys volleyball team for a great season. They placed 3rd at zones this weekend after a very close battle in the bronze medal match against Lamont. Well done, boys!

Grade 7 students, at AJSH, engaged in owl pellet dissection on Friday, as part of their exploration of animal interactions and energy transfer within ecosystems. This hands-on activity provided students with an opportunity to examine food web relationships and trace the flow of energy through organisms as it moves up trophic levels. Owls are predators that usually swallow and eat their prey whole, or at least in large chunks complete with bones, fur, and feathers. In the owl's stomach, the soft matter is digested, but the fur and bones are regurgitated back out through the mouth in a little package, or pellet. Working together, students meticulously dissected owl pellets in order to uncover what the owls have been eating. Attached are samples of their incredible discoveries!
Students in AJSH's English as an Additional Language class have been proudly showcasing information about their counties of origin with one other. When students are at the helm of celebrating cultural similarities and differences, they help create authentic, inclusive learning environments where diversity is embraced and students feel welcomed and appreciated.

In STEAM 8, students are working on intro to coding. Through the use of the program 'Hour to Code', they are learning how to write different types of code; block. javascript, python, etc. Students are fully engaged, collaborating and communicating critical thinking skills as they work together to solve problems and hone their creativity.

On Friday, students and staff at AJSH recognized Remembrance Day with a moving ceremony in our gymnasium that included our Senior High Concert band, a visit from CWO Don Keizer, and a slideshow featuring military family members of staff and students. Thank you to members of the community who were able to join us for this special ceremony. To all those who have served and continue to serve, we thank you. Lest we forget.
Grade 11 and 12 religion classes, from AJSH, took part in the No Stone Left Alone ceremony where students paid tribute to the deceased war veterans buried in our Cold Lake cemeteries. In the days leading up to the ceremony, many students took time to paint beautiful stones which were left on the headstones of the war veterans after a short celebration.
Students in 10 Prep were heavily engaged in a competitive game of Math Grudge before their quiz today! Students shared that this course has been incredibly helpful in building both their skills and confidence in Math. Keep up the GREAT work!
