parent of distinction award

A big congratulations goes out to Lea Cousins, who received the School Council Parent of Distinction Award from the Alberta School Councils Association!

Cousins, who is current School Council Chair for Dr. Brosseau Middle School, was nominated by Stephanie Atkinson, who described her as "a great cheerleader for new parents and sharing information amongst other school councils in our division, and as a strong advocate for parent involvement. Cousins has also been a constant on elementary and middle school councils.

"She always makes sure that not only are our students looked after, but our teachers and other staff too. She thinks not of herself, but everyone else," the nomination said.

The Parent Distinction Award "recognizes and individual who demonstrates ability to promote parental engagement and involvement in the public education system."

Dr. Brosseau Principal, Joe Marion, said Cousins "embodies dedication, problem-solving prowess, and a fierce commitment to enhancing student learning, adding this distinction "speaks volumes about her remarkable contributions."

For the past four years, Marin has been collaborating with his school council chair, and described Cousins as someone who is committed to contributing to shaping a better tomorrow for all our students.

"Our school is truly blessed to have her leadership in School Council. "
