École Notre Dame Elementary

Tlacrosserying Something New

Lakeland Lacrosse was in the school teaching students about the sport during Phys-Ed class. Students learned the fundamental skills of the sport, as well as the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Students and staff are supported for optimal wellbeing. 

Breathing Cups

Students had the opportunity to develop a practical solution for coping with stress and anxiety both at school and at home. Breathing cups were designed the help students manage their emotions and regain focus.

Dr. Bernard Brosseau Middle School

Francophonie Month

Dr. Brosseau celebrated Francophonie Month by participating in a variety of traditional activities including la gigue, nail hammering, tug-of-war, and playing with wooden spoons. 

This aligns with Goal Two, under the outcome of promoting and supporting French Immersion and French as a Second Language. 

Mental Health Matters Pep Rally

ballThrough a series of games and activities, students were taught important mental wellness techniques during their school’s Mental Health Matters Pep Rally. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Students and staff are supported for optimal wellbeing. 

Dragonfly Presentations

The Dragonfly Counselling and Support Centre presented to students in Grades 7 and 8 about personal safety and bystander intervention. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Students and staff are supported for optimal wellbeing. 

École Notre Dame High School

GROOVY

GroovyNDHS students stepped into the spotlight for their rendition of GROOVY, a musical that transported the audience back in time. Grade 8 Dr. Brosseau students made the trip to the school to see the play as part of their transition into high school. 

This aligns with Goal Two: Student Success and Goal Three. 

Stations of the Cross

Staff and students gathered in the gym to witness the Stations of the Cross and participate in a Hunger Meal ahead of the Easter Break. 

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.

Giving Back

One of the school’s religion classes, along with the youth minister, fundraised and volunteered, putting together Blessings in a Backpack for over 60 families in the Lakeland area. 

The school continued to give to their community through the Yard Angels program, where a religion class and the youth minister spent an afternoon raking yards for the elderly. 

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity. 

Holy Cross Elementary School

Wellness Warriors

kids with cookiesHoly Cross’ Wellness Warriors organized a Wellness Dance, raising $270 for the Lakeland Humane Society. 

The leadership group also arranged for cookies to be brought in for each student as part of the Mental Health Matters Campaign. 

These activities align with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity, and Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion.

Almsgiving

Students learned the importance of Almsgiving. During the school’s monthly assembly, students were introduced to the concept and were asked to bring gently used items from home to donate to Stepping Stones Crisis Society.  

This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.

Come Let’s Sew

Kindergarten students learned how to sew a pillow when Come Let’s Sew came to the school. 

This aligns with Goal Two under the outcome of Strengthening Career Education. 

St. Dominic Elementary School

Literacy

The Grade 2E Language Arts Class participated in the school’s rendition of March Madness: A Tournament of Books. Each day, students were captivated by the narratives of two different books, engaging in lively discussions before casting their votes to determine which book would advance on to the next tournament bracket. 

Grade 3E students conducted research projects on various influential women throughout history and had a virtual presentation from the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village about Ukrainian Easter. 

Cultural Learning

cabane a sucreStudents and staff experienced French Canadian Culture during the school’s Cabane à Sucre In addition to tasty treats, th school organized hands-on experiences and activities, where students learned the history and significance of maple sugaring. 

This aligns with Student Growth and Achievement. 

Assumption Jr/Sr High School

Paws-Itivity Days

Leadership students arranged two different Paws-Itivity Days, where Annie Fudge from Training K9’s with Annie brought some of her best canine students to visit at the school.

This was in conjunction with the school’s Mental Health Matters Campaign activities.

Light of Christ Catholic School

Skating

skaitngStudents in Grades 3 through 12 went to the BOLD Centre to participate in three days of skating sessions. 

This aligns with Goal Three: Equity an Inclusion under the outcome where students are supported academically, emotionally, and socially for optimal wellbeing. 

Portage College Tour

Grade 7 to 12 students packed their bags and headed to college for a tour of the Portage College campus. In addition to learning about the local programs, students focused their tour on seeing the labs for CTF and CTS courses that will be offered through a new partnership with the college starting in April. 

Holy Family Catholic School

Let’s Go Rural Health Career Event

Holy Family students in Grades 9 through 12 participated in the Let’s Go Rural Health Career Event in Smoky Lake, where they participated in hands-on learning experiences. 

This aligns with Goal Two under the outcome of Strengthening Career Education. 

Jon Hansen

Motivational speaker Jon Hansen shared life lessons with students in Grades 7 to 12 . His presentation focused on “unleashing your greatness,” and how to discover your “greatness word.” 

This aligns with Goal Three: Equity and Inclusion. 

Examination of Conscience

Fr. Mark presented to Grade 7 to 12 students about examination of conscience and provided them the opportunity for Reconciliation. 

This aligns with the division’s Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.
