BONNYVILLE - A dedication to learning, a passion for molding young minds, and a love for Catholic education are some of the characteristics that make an exceptional educator.
Amanda Harvie possesses those attributes, and with nearly a decade of educational experience she will be stepping into the role of Vice Principal of École Notre Dame Elementary for the 2023-24 school year.
“I love Catholic education because it teaches students to know, love, and serve God in their schools and communities. Catholic education builds relationships and accompanies students to go forth and follow in Jesus’ footsteps,” Harvie said.
Harvie is currently teaching Grade One at Holy Cross Elementary School, but this won’t be her first time wandering the halls of École Notre Dame Elementary. Her first teaching position with Lakeland Catholic was at the Bonnyville school.
Drawn to the role of an educator because of her passion for helping others succeed, the mother of two is eager to not only witness students learn, but also herself.
“I look forward to growing and learning with Lakeland Catholic. I am excited to support teachers and students with their learning and spiritual goals,” Harvie explained.
In addition to helping her students find success in the classroom, Harvie assists others in conquering their goals in a different setting.
“I am passionate about fitness and helping others achieve their goals. I coach boxing classes at Titans Boxing Club and Barre and Body Classes at Wheelfit Co Cold Lake,” she explained.
Originally from Orillia, ON, Harvie graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON where she completed a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education. She is currently enrolled at the University of Alberta for a Masters in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Pedagogy.
“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.”
