École Notre Dame Elementary
I Spy
Students tested their spotting skills in January after École Notre Dame Elementary School’s librarian Nicole Scotton created an “I Spy” Board. The board, which is located outside of the library, encouraged students and staff to find certain items from a list.

Prayer Box
A Grade 3 student asked if he could start a prayer box where anyone could place an intention inside. Once a week, the student takes the prayers and recites a special prayer of intention for each one.

Motivational Magic
Learning was taken to a magical level at École Notre Dame Elementary. The school was blessed to have Motivational Magic presenter Steve Harmer share his message on Building Character.

Sacramental Moments
Students in Grade 5 start their day in prayer and celebrate the gift of Catholic Education! This aligns with Goal One: Catholic Christian Identity.
Hitting the Slopes
Students enjoyed a day on the slopes at Kinosoo Ridge Ski Resort. The day was spent learning the sport and encouraging each other.
This aligns with Goal Three, where students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally for optimal wellbeing.

Kindness in Action
Two École Notre Dame students were highlighted for promoting and supporting kindness in their school: Sara Fagnan and Cadogan Rachynski.
Holy Cross Elementary
Christian Unity Celebration
The school community gathered with special guests Father Nong, Pastor AnnE (Lakeland Lutheran Church), and Pastor Sintia (Cold Lake Community Church) for their Christian Unity Celebration in January. Pastor AnnE and Pastor Sintia both shared their thoughts on why Christian Unity is so important, and that we all share our belief in Jesus as being our Saviour.

City Planning Presentation
Grade 6 students discovered what it was like to be a city planner as part of their Social Studies work on learning about local government. A representative from the City of Cold Lake visited all the Grade 6 classes to help students learn all about what the City Planning Department does and why it is important.

Right Choices Program
MD Resource Officer Gillet wrapped up the Right Choices Program with Grade 5 students. This program is part of the Grade 5 wellness curriculum and covered the following topics: bullying and harassment, cyberbullying, internet safety, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, drugs, and peer pressure.

St. Dominic Elementary
Literacy
Students and staff celebrated literacy day with a number of activities, special guests, and a read-a-thon that generated over $4,600. The money raised will be used to build teachers’ class libraries and provide additional access to instructional supplies in the classrooms.

Building Deeper Connections
Assemblies with administration and community partners promoted the development of wellness, First Nation, Métis and Inuit awareness and understanding, and built deeper community connections.

Assumption Jr/Sr High
Milk and a Muffin
As part of the school’s Mental Health Matters Campaign, students shared the message that healthy bodies mean healthy minds.
Each student at Assumption received a glass of milk and a homemade muffin heading into exam week.

Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Zone Team Champion
After a little encouragement from their teacher, students took on the challenge and participated in the Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Zones. The team brought home a win and the title of zone champions.

Light of Christ
Stand Up Against Bullying Recognition
Shellaine was recognized by her peers as someone who stands up against bullying and ensures everyone is treated kindly and fairly. Students put her name forward after attending the Walk for Hope in November, where they had an opportunity to nominate a student.

Christian Unity
French Immersion students gathered for weekly mass and focused their prayers and faith development on the topic of Christian Unity.

Cold Weather Activities
Despite frigid temperatures that cancelled buses, classroom teachers engaged students in hands-on learning. While Grade 3 students learned how to make fake snow and discussed the states of matter, Grade 6 students made bannock for Cree.
